Even the best tool will be ineffective if it's not properly sharpened.

To get a perfectly sharp tool, you first need a good quality tool, made of steel that will sharpen easily and hold its edge for a long time. Additionally, you need a sharpening stone with a grit that is abrasive enough and fine enough to quickly achieve a quality edge. Finally, a good sharpening result largely depends on the sharpener's skill. Generally, to sharpen a tool correctly, you should start with a roughing stage, carried out with a machine or water grinder (to avoid annealing the steel), a coarse-grit diamond surface stone, or an oil or water stone, depending on individual preferences and habits.

Next comes the medium grit for refining the edge, and finally the sharpening finish or deburring, an operation that can be performed on a fine or even very fine grit water or oil stone, a leather or felt disc coated with a finely abrasive paste, driven by a motor or attached to the chuck of a drill.
