Gummed paper is an essential marquetry consumable for preparing and assembling veneer sheets. It is placed between the sheets to be glued to prevent them from shifting during the critical pressing phase, thus ensuring a consistent final result without misalignment of the patterns.

The paper is moistened before placement to activate the natural gum, then, once the glue is dry and the piece is stabilized, it is removed by scraping or sanding, leaving the veneer clean and well positioned.
