Easily recognizable by the characteristic "V" shape of its cutting edge, the chisel is an indispensable tool in sculpture.
It is used to trace and engrave shapes on wood, much like a pencil, to define and clear different masses during the roughing out of a sculpture, as well as to create contours, veins on foliage, and folds in clothing.
