The Sun Tiger 250/1000 grit stone is a Japanese reconstituted sharpening stone used for the maintenance of cutting tools.
It has an open-grain structure, with abrasives made from purified metal oxides bonded together with a resin or ceramic, allowing for consistent and effective abrasion. The stone is suitable for most tools, whether of Japanese or European origin.

Before use, immerse the stone in water for a few minutes: it will absorb water, which promotes the appearance of an abrasive slurry on its surface essential for sharpening.

The 250 grit face is intended for heavy material removal, useful for re-beveling dull or damaged tools, while the 1000 grit face is used to refine the edge after roughing before a finer finish if necessary.

If the stone wears unevenly over time, its surface can be dry-ground by rubbing it on abrasive paper placed on a very flat surface (for example, a thick glass plate or a machine table).
