The Veritas roughing plane is specifically designed for the first phase of working with solid wood: roughing. Unlike a finishing or dressing plane, it is intended to quickly remove material, correct distortions, eliminate saw marks, and bring a piece to a rough shape before moving on to finer planes.

It is equipped with a highly curved PM-V11 blade, allowing it to produce thick chips without leaving any sharp edges. This blade geometry prevents longitudinal marks and allows for a clean cut, even in hard or irregular woods.

The plane body is designed with a wide opening, essential for roughing, ensuring efficient chip removal and preventing clogging. The precise depth-of-cut adjustment allows for precise control of the cutting action depending on the wood's condition.

The PM-V11 blade, made of Veritas proprietary steel, combines:

a cutting edge that is significantly superior to traditional carbon steels,

increased resistance to chipping,

and ease of sharpening, which is appreciated in the workshop.

This riflard corresponds to the tool traditionally used before the dressing plane (No. 5, No. 6 or No. 7) in a manual planing chain.
