The Norton 2-grit corundum stone is a traditional sharpening stone made of corundum abrasive, produced by the Norton company, renowned for its abrasives, or by Corid Germany depending on availability.

This model is rectangular and has two equipped sides:
- a medium-grit face, suitable for reshaping the bevel or repairing a dull tool,
- a fine grain face, suitable for sharpening the edge before finishing.

Corundum (aluminum oxide) is a hard and effective abrasive, with low wear resistance, making it a durable and versatile stone for regular sharpening in woodworking shops.
Lubrication is necessary: the stone is used with suitable sharpening oil or kelardane (light petroleum), in order to facilitate the evacuation of abrasive particles and to prevent the grain from clogging during the operation.

This type of stone is particularly suitable for common uses in carpentry and cabinetmaking, to maintain hand tools (chisels, plane irons, scrapers, gouges, etc.) at a high level of sharpness, with a logical progression from medium grain to fine grain.
