Product care instructions:
- Cleaning after use: wipe away wood chips and dust to preserve the cutting edge.
- Wipe & dry: avoid prolonged moisture on steel to limit corrosion.
- Sharpening: although factory sharpened, these gouges can be sharpened; use water stones or abrasives adapted to the angled profile to maintain a sharp edge without altering the original geometry.
- Handle maintenance: if the handle is made of wood, occasionally apply wood oil or wax to preserve comfort and durability.
- Dry storage: keep the tool in a dry environment or in a case/protective cover to prevent oxidation and impacts.

The Pfeil Swiss-made Series No. 7 semi-hollow gouge is a wood carving tool designed to facilitate work in angled areas, cavities, or raised surfaces where a standard straight gouge is unsuitable. The angled profile of the blade raises the cutting angle, making it possible to cut into recessed areas without the stubbing that would occur with a straight gouge.

This type of tool is particularly suited to sculptors seeking to shape concave surfaces, narrow areas or complex shapes requiring a smooth and effortless passage of the tool while limiting the risk of breaking the cutting edge, the angled shape preventing the gouge from having too much leverage which would damage the cutting edge.

Series No. 7 covers a wide range of cutting edge widths:
- 4 mm: very fine details.
- 6 mm & 8 mm: fine details, smooth entry into the material.
- 10 mm & 14 mm: medium areas, shape transitions.
- 18 mm & 20 mm: moderate material removal on inclined surfaces.
- 25 mm & 30 mm: wider surfaces or greater clearance while maintaining the comfort of cutting at an angle.
