Natural blue Coticule stone extracted from the Belgian Ardennes, made up of very abrasive garnet grains, used with water to obtain a very fine sharpening finish on cutting tools.

Additional information

Blue Coticule is a natural sharpening stone sourced from deep layers of sedimentary rock in the Belgian Ardennes. It contains garnet grains—very hard and abrasive particles—which allow for rapid material removal while producing a very smooth cutting surface on tools.
Its very fine grain (~2000) makes it a stone particularly suited to the finishing phase after a coarser sharpening: it eliminates micro-irregularities and leaves a clean and homogeneous edge.

It must be used with water: the water helps to form a natural abrasive slurry on the surface of the stone. This slurry works in conjunction with the abrasive (garnet), further improving sharpening efficiency.
