Produced using powder metallurgy, Veritas' innovative PVM11 steel, despite its high hardness (61-63 HRC), is very easy to sharpen and produces a razor-sharp edge on conventional sharpening stones. Thanks to its extra-fine and regular material structure and high hardness, this steel achieves twice the cutting durability of A2 steel, even when creating long bevels (20°).
Because a spokeshave is guided by hand, it is essential that it be robust and equipped with a thick blade to eliminate vibrations. This model, made by Veritas, has these capabilities with its 3.3mm thick PVM11 steel blade, the tool body being precision-machined from ductile steel. The micrometric blade feed adjustment, using a mechanism with absolutely no play, allows for extremely fine shavings. Two shims are provided to adjust the mouth opening.
