The Kotagana carving knife is a traditional Japanese carving knife, particularly appreciated in instrument making and bow making, but also used in fine carving and marquetry.

Each blade is forged from 3 layers of steel:

a central high-carbon steel forming the cutting edge,

protected by two layers of softer steel ensuring strength and stress absorption.

This construction allows for:
