The large 442 splitting axe is designed for demanding splitting jobs, where the diameter, density, or grain of the wood requires a tool with high inertia. Hand-forged by Gransfors Bruks, it is made of high-carbon steel, forged for an extended period and then hardened to 57 HRC, guaranteeing strength, durability, and reliability under impact.

Its massive, flared head is not designed for cutting but for powerfully separating the fibers, allowing it to split even thick, knotty logs. The long hickory handle, of American origin, promotes optimal energy transfer while ensuring stability and safety during repeated blows.

Each axe is stamped with the master blacksmith's initials and delivered sharpened with a leather sheath, ready for heavy use.
